    1. I can go first! I work for Universidad del Valle as an associate professor in the Foreign Languages and Cultures Program. My research interests are CALL/CMC, multimodality and intercultural communication. In fact, I ma examining the connection between multimodality and intercultural communication. We can talk about these topics if you want. About my research, just finished research on CMC and multimodality. I examined the integration of a SNSLL (social networking site for language learning) in the classes of a foreign language teacher education program. We used two websites: Livemocha and Busuu. This research was conducted in partnership with Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. We looked at aspects of how to integrate the SNSLL with the class syllabus, the role of the multimodal semiotic design of the website and we also looked at the role of the website in enhancing (inter)cultural contents.
Let me know what you think or what your research is about!

    2. Dear Jose Aldemar, it is a pleasure to share with you my current research regarding EFL extended practice with university students at two region branches such as Amazonia and Orinoquia from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 3 cities: San Jose de Guaviare, Arauca and Leticia. This current study shows how students make their own decisions to deal with their individual EFL learning needs to support their autonomous work, improve their EFL performance and include use of some Information and Communication tools to have more engagement with their own learning path, their self-reflection process and their final socialization of their learning experience. I would like to hear your voices regarding these issues and see if we can continue building academic community for a long time. Thank for this space, and please, let me know about your views are, I will be happy to hear from you.

    1. Hi Ángela, great you join us! Yes, non-verbal aspects of communication and language teaching require more attention. Non-verbal aspects of communication are disregarded in language teaching, we have to vouch for language (communication) teaching that is more realistic.

  6. Dear professor Álvarez and colleagues,

    Hope you are alright!

My name is Hans Humberto Oviedo Gómez. It is a pleasure for me to be a member. I am an English teacher at a state school in Florencia, Caquetá. I also work as a part-time teacher at Universidad de la Amazonia. While studying in my Licenciatura programme, I also had the chance to study to become an Administrador de Empresas. I finished both undergraduate programmes at the same time and I continued with a Specialization in Gerencia Estratégica de Mercadeo. After this, I developed my Master's studies at Universidad Surcolombiana. Finally, I am currently a doctoral student from Doctorado Interinstitucional en Educación with emphasis in ELT at Universidad del Valle.

The field of interculturality and the development of the Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) has motivated me to develop research in my context, the Amazonian region. I have had a first contact with this field of study some years ago when developing my research study for my Master’s programme. This research study had to do with cultural content, Materials Development (MD) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning.

However, I would also like to explore the field of CALL/CMC and multimodality. I am sure that being part of this academic community will help me accomplish this.

    Sicerely,

    Hans

  7. Dear Hans, I am glad you join the groups! Welcome!! You have a wonderful resume. The field of intercultural communication is clearly connected with multimodality. We are intersecting them through multimodal pedagogies where culture is central to meaning making. Everything we do revolves around meanings. We draw on several meaning-making modalities and channels to communicate. Now, the meanings we make are cultural and it is in the encounter of those cultural meanings that the intercultural dimension is active. We are working on conceptualizing different concepts through our Newsletters. Feel free to check them out and let us know here what you think.
