Our SIG participation in ASOCOPI

Dear colleagues!

In October, our SIG was part of ASOCOPI’s 58th Annual and 4th International Conference in Manizales.

On October 14th the  coordinators, Professors José Aldemar Álvarez and Alejandro Fernández, conducted

the workshop “Designing Transmodal Sequences in Multimodal Pedagogies”. This presentation was about

the ways in which transmodalization can be used in our language classrooms. You can check the

workshop’s abstract below to get more details about it.

One of the main concepts in multimodal pedagogies is transmodality. The concept refers to the design of

tasks that move across several modes of communication, bringing different opportunities for meaning

making. This workshop briefly discusses the main principles of multimodal pedagogies and focuses on

transmodality as a way to assemble instructional sequences that target particular language skills and

capabilities. During the presentation, some practical guidelines for the design and implementation of

transmodal sequences will be offered. Additionally, the audience will participate in the design of tasks

integrating the concept.

The meeting was a success!! Attendants had a great time designing multimodal artifacts that helped

explain the main concepts of multimodal pedagogies and in particular transmodality. Below, we share

some pictures of the meeting. We thank all colleagues who attended the session and invite all of you to

contribute to our SIG by asking questions in the forum or sending ideas of publication for our Newsletter.

Finally, our next meeting will be next year in Barranquilla where the upcoming conference will take place.
